The Simon Group

MARTY SIMON

Chief Troublemaker & Founder

The original Groupie, the starter of it all. Marty founded the agency in 1986 with a focus on PR and graphic services for B2B companies in need of a strategic marketing communications partner. The company’s personality stems from his fun-loving character and passion for all things rock ‘n roll.

Over the years, he built up the rest of the team, before retiring in 2018 to focus primarily on playing guitar. He passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021.

As his daughter, and former Groupie, Rebecca, put it, the words “You’re just like Marty Simon” have never been spoken. He was an original.

Everything Marty did was authentic, and all the personal notes and condolences we received from our professional friends and colleagues at his passing are testament to that. So, we wanted to share some of their thoughts and kind words with all of you, which shows how Marty truly left a piece of himself in everyone that knew him:

Thoughts from Colleagues and Industry Friends

• Marty was such a unique soul, full of life… a caring and giving individual.
• He had a grace that comes from a keen inner strength.
• None of us can imagine where we would be in our professional lives, as well as personal, if we didn’t have Marty.
• He was such a wonderful inspiration to so many, and will be sorely missed.
• Marty treated everyone like family.
• For the years I knew him, he inspired me, taught me, and showed me that second chances can be better than firsts.
• He’s one of the people I think of, as one of my “beloved uncles”, that I’ve been blessed to know throughout my career.
• Marty gave me the confidence to know that I could be successful.

There are many other stories, and we’ve thought a lot about what’s at the heart of them all.  It’s how Marty made people feel safe.  Not just comfortable or enthusiastic or confident, but safe:

  • Safe to get up in front of a live band and sing at the barbeque
  • Safe to be a newbie in some really technical industries
  • Safe to ask questions and ‘know what you don’t know’
  • Safe to believe in yourself

Over the past two decades we’ve been honored to bear witness, time and time again, to one of the most caring, compassionate and loving souls to ever step foot into this world. We carry his example with us every day, and for that we will always be grateful.  Love and miss you, Marty.
